    Side business

Does anyone have a good side business that keeps them busy in the off season. I am looking to always do more and keep my guys busy all year. Looking at making outdoor tables, benches and chairs. We can make them all winter and on slow times then sell them all year. Any other good ideas.

I do not have 4x4 trucks and it is steady work. Some years are good and some are not. Also I like not having to work when it snows.

They collect unemployment. I pay them from 30-38 weeks. They would rather work 45-50 weeks.

Don't let them collect unemployment. It is bad for the country and cost me money in the long run. We typically are shut down a week or more because of weather in the winter. Last year it was a month. Either way I still pay everyone for 40 hours. Charge enough and save enough so you can make payroll in the winter. We typically do a lot of gutter jobs and rebuild trucks and equipment when it drops below about 28 degrees and we can't work.

Why would we pay for 3 months of salary when no work is being done. We pay into unemployment for a reason, so let them collect.

If you promise a man a job you need to be able to pay him. It is not the taxpayers job to support them if you can't. Just my take on it.
