    Cedar Roof Cleaning

I have a Cedar Roof to clean this Spring. I'm not sure what the process is. What chemical are used to do it? Can I get them from Bob at PT. They say S/H isn't the best way to go. I'm thinking there is some kind of wood brightener to brighten the cedar up. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are just cleaning the grey off a bleach mixture would work. If you are stripping and old sealer the F-18 then brightened with F-8. You can use F-8 after it's been cleaned with bleach just rinse real good before F-8.

Only cedar roof I've ever done was a all day project
started with sodium percarb then washed it at about 500 psi then some OX. Roof looked great when done but it was a lesson learned i could of cleaned 4 tile roofs in the time it took to do one cedar roof

But you can charge more. I'm doing one in spring $3000. But to replace with anew roof they want $50'000 a lot off people around here don't know that it needs maintained, and that also gets me a new customer for the next 20 to 30 years.

Age , condition, pitch, are all factors and will it be oiled. I just completed a 5000 sqftage 5/8 thick cedar roof cleaned with bleach and oiled with ready seal which I add some other other stuff too better preserve the wood.

If you use bleach and don't oil to preserve the wood you may decrease the life of the roof . That being said I have shot a few of them with roof grade solution for asphalt roofs and the customers were very happy. They were also very bad and should of been replaced.

I think bleach when mixed at the right strength...

Are you going to stain it with some oil?

It would be better for the wood if it would get a clear sealer at least.Once you clean it that wood will be super dry!

    How big of a roof?

    Re: Cedar Roof Cleaning

One of my customer complaints this year was from a customer whose cedar roof we cleaned last year. They opted out of oiling. I made it very clear before we did the job that the shingles would be drier and could warp with rapid wet/dry cycling. Sure enough they were miffed that some of their shingles were curling. I drew up a custom disclaimer that they signed off on. I wasn't sure what they wanted. Years old mold growth were keeping the shingles moist and some had began to decay. I'm not a roof guy so I am not sure which is the greater evil there.. rot or a little warping. There is nothing I could do except re-clean and oil which again they opted out of again. They wanted me to basically do it at my expense. I would recommend you mention this potential issue with your customer.
