Need Help With Color Match
« on: March 19, 2008, 10:04:53 AM »
Have a homeowner that recently purchased this home and they have no idea what is currently on their deck.  They believe that WTW WHG will be too light for their liking and would like something similar to the current stain, if it is quality.

Any idea of what this might be?  Any recommendations for something similar in color?

Sorry about the distance in the pics.  I wasn't thinking about the stain color when I took them...

Brown Sugar might work if you're staying with ES product line.

Looks along the lines of a neutral cedar and I would call that fairly light now. Perhaps their mention of WHG being too light really means too yellow which would be common thing to happen when trying to get the feel of what someone wants.

Listen to Celeste or maybe ask Russell directly if going with his product...You can half tone them products with their clears if need be to stay light.

If doing custom be careful to realize what color the wood is after cleaned. A blank canvas always tints the end product especially when going light shade semi-transparents. In example, adding hardly any red of course to a yellow canvas will start you on a course to the dreaded orange leaving you no choice but to go darker.
Likely need just a well diluted burnt umber in a clear base. Adjust with burnt sienna and black.

I did a deck with RS dark brown that looks similar. Omax cayon brown is also very close to that, both are quality sealers.
