Cleaner Times Article
« on: March 29, 2008, 08:01:07 PM »
April's edition of Cleaner Times drought article is attached. It is a good read and I personally feel that is was well written and fair.

Kudos go out to everyone in the industry for bringing the drought situation to the forefront.

Relief for Washers www.reliefforwashers.com will continue to keep this topic alive and fresh as we feel that water conditions or lack there of will be a common place for some states. I suspect and believe that Celeste over at www.pwnc.org will do the same.

Again, my personal thanks to all in the industry that took notice of this situation. I am not only speaking about the RFW initiative but also PWNC. Even though there have been some "sticky" situations down this road I am certainly gratified that at the end ~ the industry took note of the drought, responded and benefited - for me that is one step in the right direction.

I can't get the PDF file to upload for the article.  Follow the link over to read the article. -

The staff at the Cleaner Times was great to work with!  We feel very honored to have had as much attention to our situation here as we did.  Many of us are taking the opportunity to use the article to show some of the "non-believers" here that there is an issue that has gleaned national attention in our industry.   There are still many that are only focusing on the negatives right now as opposed to helping to educate the customers here....Contradictory information published serves only to muddy the little water we have.

I would like to see what others have to say but the main focus is about half way down in the article , looks as if I may have been right after all

All this appears as I felt it would be .... an attempt to sell more equipment instead of addressing the problem at hand

How do washers already in financial trouble expect buying equipment to be the end to the means ? The article says 800 ro 1000 dollars , ok whay about added weight to already over loaded trailers, DOT regulation , waste water disposal problems , hazerdous material dumps and handling issues , license to haul , the liability of carrying such materials , accidental spills , higher insurance cost for the same.

Yes go buy the equipment OR Take a stand against those trying to take what little you have left , Carlos you are from California , not from here I say worry about your own problems , We have enough here already

I promise to be the biggest loudest advocate against you now that you have truely shown your colors brother , you have slipped it in on the sly and that is ok but no more on my watch and to think you thought you could sweet talk me into getting on board ...... I say no more ! Do not let them play contractors into purchasing un needed equipment

Better yet lets boycot any vendor who openly supports taking the last dollar you have and see how much they will do to help then ! This is the ones trying to capitalize on our problems.

If the vendor were truely on our side they would fight against the ban instead of selling NEW equipment , wow talk about taking advantage of you in your time of need

Did I read the same article???

I did read something about contractors and vendors getting together to discuss the ban and drought restrictions.  I did see a comment about trying to get vendors to give discounts on equipment that would reclaim used water for re-use.  BUT, I didn't see anyone saying buy this and it will solve all your problems.  I don't believe that was the main focus of the article at all.

From what I read my impression was that the main focus of the article was to let contractors know that there is a wide spread drought and that contractors are joining together to fight against the media's message.

The bottom line is, I don't really know if any of this will help but I support anyone trying to help contractors through the droughts in different areas.  Think about this for a second.  Even if manufacturers gave away equipment to could reclaim all water that was used, then filter it so it could be re-used would it really help the current situation?  No, I don't think it would.

Unfortuanetly the problem as I see it, is the water supplies are dwindling due to nature and most importantly, bad planning at the local government level.  The local governments never planned well for the growing consumption of water that accurs with economic and household growth.

Ask yourself this question honestly.  If you weren't a power washer and you were in a drought affected area, would you hire a contractor to power wash your deck, knowing that it would dwindle the supply of water you have to give your kids to drink, even by a gallon?

As a parent, this is what I see as a major part of the problem, couple that with the media telling me every day that water supplies are getting lower and lower.  The newspapers, TV, Internet and everything else saying save water, save water and creating fear for the consumers that hire power washers.  This is the problem!

Even if the local governments said okay, we will allow power washing.  How many consumers in the affected areas would pick up their phones and say, I want you to power wash my deck???

I feel for any power washer in the drough affected areas and honestly I wish I could help but there really isn't anything I can do.  Sending in money to RFP won't help, it would take hundreds of thousands of dollars to do the least bit of good.  I've written to some of your senators as asked on other boards, I've contacted the media and submitted articles to some of them.  I've got some good freinds that are contractors and vendors in the affected areas and they know that if there is anything I can do to help that they can call me.  I've even offered to share some of my work to companies in drought areas if that would be any help but these are the only things I can think of to help at this point.

Henry , good points but my focus on this is one thing , I said from the start that this would be their answer to the problem , I was told I was wrong and right in black and white there it is ! Wow thanks Carlos that really solved the issue , we dont need someone raising awareness to the contractors and government about the drought we are all aware of the drought here , what we need to do is ban together and resolve the issue through education to the contractor so that the contractor will understand how to have a voice and fight for them selves

Last week I met with some contractore from around my state and educated them on dry well and waste water run off's , diversion techniques ect..... now if we have a problem we will have answeres rather that "uhhhhh I dont know" I guess I cant work

Like it or not people from the south dont like having others from outside here speak for them that goes for government officials as well

Wow, Russ, it almost sounds like you're using your time and energy to directly help other contractors in a drought area.

Kudos, brother.
