Bob, per our conversation (and my mishap), you may want to sticky this for future reference.

Thad, the issue was lack of information.Mike Dennis helped me immensely, but somewhere in the lines of communication, a few things were omitted. The pump worked great for 2 minutes, then I heard a loud crack. I looked over to see the pump smoking and the wires on fire, cinged like a flamebroiled whopper. Per Bob, here are a few suggestions:

1. The 12 volt battery needs to be at least 600 amps. Mine was 125.

2. Gator clips are not recommended, as they can't transmit the voltage correctly. I used the clips.

3. The wires need to be bolted to the battery, not just clipped.

4. The pressure switch on the pump will need to adjusted to ensure constant flow. If the pump is whining like a little girl, then something is wrong!

You really should use an inline fuse like 20 amps to help prevent things like that.

A friend of mine uses flood lights all the time and the last time he used them his wires melted and caught on fire. He used the alligator clips too.

I was going to do that also but after hearing that, I went and bought the correct terminals for the battery and just wire it in with a switch and fuse to be safe.

If you are bolting to the battery what do yall do to shut it off?  I just unhook my gator clips.  I tried a switch a while back but how are yall installing it?  Mine kept getting ruined and corroded by chems.
