BBB worth it?
« on: July 21, 2009, 10:40:11 PM »
The Better Business Bureau called again and left a message...I haven't talked to them in a while so I imagine they are either updating information or trying to get me to be "accredited"

I see the value in throwing the whole BBB thing out there during sales presentations, but other than that what do yall think?  How much does it cost?

Charlie,
At present we do not belong to BBB.  They could be a big help in some communities.  They are looked upon by older people as the Bible of Good Contractors.  Unfortunately this is not true. The BBB is a group that offers membership and holds their members to a standard.  Pretty much like any good org. would do.  They even take responses from people who take the time to evaluate a business.  I actually reported a local business using our PDCA logo and not a member.  They kicked them out of BBB, but they still promote the PDCA without membership! Not all BBB businesses are good. If your clientel is older, I'd join.  If they are younger, check it out with them.  Ask if they ever refer to the BBB.  Thank you.

Here, the BBB markets and has a directory that they hand out. Also the directory is online. I do around $10K/year from leads directly from the BBB Directory/website.

If nothing else Charlie, the lead generation alone is worth the dues.

They are a scam.

Agreed. Old time pay-to-play kind of thing. Can't remember the last time I saw their logo on any companies ads or front door.
