Wood cleaning in cold weather?
« on: November 25, 2009, 09:35:40 AM »
Tried to search this but came up empty.

I have never cleaned wood below 55 Degrees. Im in TN.  Low 30's High 50ish.  Just wondering if anyone knows of a cutoff temp when cleaning?  I ran out of F18 so it would be with F10 or 12.5%.  By the way, case in point is Pt pine, just graying.   Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Its like anything you are cleaning in cooler weather. The chems will work slower. On the plus side they also dry out slower so you can wet down, go make calls, eat a banana or whatever while you wait for the additional dwell time. Staining with night time temps under 45 is where you run into problems. Cleaning you can get away with any time.

Thanks for the reply and the tips.  That's what I was guessing, but I just wanted to make sure so I didn't have to leave a customer with a job half done.  And yeah I've never attemped staining below 50degs. Thanks again.

As stated above, you just have to adjust to fit the scenario. As I mentioned in another thread, I dont do any work of any kind under 50 degrees. Try that method and I promise you wont have any cold weather problems
